The Power of Validation

It’s funny how one word can have two different meanings.  If you watch at least a little of the video above you’ll see what I mean.

The lesson in this short film is one I’ve preached for years – The most important thing you can ever do for another human being is to acknowledge them to their face.

I make it a practice to always tell people when something about them strikes me.

All too often we tell a third party what we notice that’s positive about someone else.  How many times have you told your friend about what you think is great about your boss, your kids, or a stranger you witnessed doing something cool instead of telling that person?

Whether someone’s being a great parent, a clerk with a beautiful smile or a colleague who does a great job on a project, tell them you noticed them.

Here’s where your personal influence is most effective at the most basic level.  People want to be seen, understood and appreciated (validated) more than anything else.  So spread the love and see how great it makes you feel too.
