How Leaving Blog Comments Builds Your Influence

Social Media Rockstar is a blog I get some great information from and it’s author, Brett Borders frequently comments on my posts here.

He included me in his latest posts because I admitted to not following my own advice to comment on high profile blogs daily. 

Also note that I’m linking to his blog and Twitter account here giving him more exposure right after he linked to me and gave me more exposure.  In the world of influence, you get much more by giving.

I think comments are a lot like graffiti in the social media world. They’re a opportunity to freely “tag” your name and show off your writing in public places around the internet (that can also invite spam and vandalism). A way to put your own name on the map. Many new bloggers approach comments quite casually or unconsciously… without realizing if you get more organized and systematic about leaving comments, you can build a strong reputation and generate highly-targeted traffic for your own sites and content.
